A Petastic Update Idea From Umbra Shadowhunter

Back before the installment of the Second Arc KingsIsle brought forth Advanced Pets. It has now been 5 years since that update. And ever since that update we haven't really seen anything new and exciting for Pets. Yes they've continued making Pets and Hybrids and Pet Snacks and whatnot. But is that really "exciting" for most players?

What Do We Want?

What players want are new mini-games, new features, and whatnot for Pets. Something to keep them busy for hours at a time. As it is currently, most people tend to purposely fail the pet mini-games to train their pets faster because the games have become boring and not very exciting to replay. There is also a huge lack in diverse Pets because they all look the same.

The point of this post is to address these matters. I want to bring the fun back to Pets for Wizard101.

Hybrids

Currently, almost all of the Hybrids in Wizard101 are just re-coloured pets that grand different item cards. In Pirate101 however, Hybrids are almost all unique, and there are thousands of them. Giving Hatchers... I mean Morphers hours of fun. The unique hybrids also allow for more diverse looks amongst players.

With Wizard101's most people tend to have the same Pet (because of the Item Cards they grant) and there isn't much diversity in looks. As well, as I mentioned before, the hybrids are all re-coloured. There are no truly "unique" pets in Wizard101.

Here's what I'm proposing.

1) Lower the Cooldown on hatching to an hour or two.

2) Make all Pets (Both Hybrids and First Gen) hatch within 5 minutes to an hour, excluding School Pets.

3) Create thousands of mysterious, and unique Hybrids so that Hatchers have something to do and so that there is more diverse looks in Wizard101.

4) Allow certain Item Cards on Pets to transfer over to their offspring and become available at Epic or Mega.

5) Add a second Hatching Slot.

In my opinion, I think it's time to expand the Pet Pavilion and with the expansion add new pet games. Pet games; as I've said before they've become boring. I think it would be wise of KingIsle to create 5 new islands, all reachable by the balloon cart near the Gobbler Drop game. On each island would be several new unique challenges based around a certain world/theme. Alongside these new challenges there would be one brand new Pet PvP Game, like the Derby.

How about a Fashion Show?

There could be a Fashion Show where you're allowed to dress up and show off your Pet. You'll be asked to dress them up to match a certain theme. The closer you are the better chance you have of winning first prize. As well, you'll also be asked to have your Pet show off one of their Fashion Talents. Fashion Talents are granted to a Pet the same way you get Derby, PvE/P talents, and whatnot. Fashion Talents would work similar to the Pokemon system where each Talent appeals to the "audience" as either Cool, Cute, Smart, Beautiful, and Tough.

Here's a scenario: Lets say you've entered a Cool Competition. You'll be asked to dress up your Pet with gear that's considered "Cool". Depending on how Cool your Pet you'll be rewarded with 1, 2, 3, or 4 points. The more points you get the better your chances are at winning.

You'll then go onto the second part of the competition where you'll be asked to show off one of your Pet's Talents. Since this is a Cool Competition you'll most likely want to use a Talent that's classified as Cool since it will increase your chances of winning. The Talents can affect both your Pet or the opposing players' Pets.

The Competition lasts a total of 4 rounds. At the end of the 4th round everyone's points are tallied and the player with the most points is awarded with 1st place, the player with the second most points is awarded 2nd place and so on.

Cooking & Friendship

Enough about that though, now I'd like to talk about an entirely new system that I've had in mind, Cooking and Friendship. Cooking has been a highly requested thing from me. I've shared the idea with my friends and the majority of them like it. Basically, Cooking allows you to bond with your Pet while making Pet Snacks. Using "Ingredients", which are like Reagents, you can try and make different foods. There would be thousands of recipes to make, you can try and test the waters with any variety of ingredients.

There's more to cooking though than just using Ingredients. Cooking is a mini-game where you'll be asked to mix together Ingredients, Cook & Stir/Bake, as well as Plate and Season the food.

If you're successful in making the food you'll be rewarded a Unique Mega Snack, but if you fail you'll receive Gunk. Both items can be fed to your Pet, Unique Mega Snacks offer a chance at a random reward while also boosting your Pet's XP and Talent meters. Gunk however will only raise your Pet's stats slightly, while at the same time potentially lowering a Talent meter or worse, not granting your Pet XP at all.

The other system I mentioned was Friendship. Now what is Friendship? Friendship is a new Stat that boosts your Pet's chance of performing a May Cast as well as giving them a chance of gaining double the normal amount of XP from a Pet Snack.

The Friendship meter can only increase through Pet PvP Games and Unique Mega Snacks that you cook with your Pet. The Friendship meter goes up to 100 with each Mega Snack giving your Pet a total increase of 2-7 Friendship points. While Pet PvP Games grant them a total of 1-9 points.

When the Friendship meter is at 100 your Pet has a 75% chance to perform a May Cast and a 65% chance of receiving double the XP from regular Pet Snack and a 45% chance of gaining double the XP from a Mega Pet Snacks)

Not to mention, Pet Talents...

Lastly, I'd like to share a few unique Pet Talents that came to mind. With the addition of two bundles that focused on the Fishing and Gardening Activities I think it would be cool to add in a Pet (it doesn't even have to be apart of a bundle) that helps with Crafting. The Pet's Talents would offer an additional Crafting Slot, and a Talent that allows it to randomly pick up all sorts of Reagents as well as gold.

Another Talent that comes to mind is a May Cast Talent that when casted exempts the Owner (or an ally/team?) from Cheats for one round.

Derby & Shadow Pets

I think KingsIsle should consider adding new Derby Arenas that are based around all worlds/areas introduced in the Second Arc.

There's been some requests for the new Shadow-Enhanced Spells to become Pets. I agree with this idea 100% but I don't think they should be School-locked. Instead make them Top-Notch Pets for Battle and Pet PvP Games that can be received either through Arena Ticket purchasing or drops from maybe a new Pet game? As well, I'd like to see the Vampire Carrots become Pets......

Anyways, what are your thoughts on all of this? Are you for or against any of these ideas?

New Wizard101 Pet Found - the Dragonfly Pet

Last night, someone spotted a dragonfly pet in Pet Pavilion. Suddenly the community was all atwitter'ing about if it was a hoax or if it was actually real. Then we tried to figure out where it could come from. The person with the dragonfly pet did not really help, so it was incredibly confusing.

...Until this morning when Wizard101 chimed in on their Twitter account. By the way, if you are not following them on Twitter, you're missing out.

We knew immediately that this had to be a hint at how to create the Dragonfly pet! Off to work, we went! Suddenly, the pet hatchery were full of wizards trying to hatch their Bumblebee pet with the dragon pets that was mentioned on the game card page and even with dragon game card pets that were not available this month. Yep, it was free for all in there. The hype was real. Wasn't pretty. Imagine Black Friday.

But one brave wizard has discovered the combination, Tabitha Stormcaster!

The Hybrid Pet's Stats

We gleefully cheered and said that this must be it. We all said that Tabitha Stormcaster was our hero! But then Wizard101 dropped yet another bombshell.

Say what? It's also dropped in-game? Where?! Pits was a clue, so Black Hole in The Hive? Some people thought maybe it was the Mutation Chambers of The Hive too? They do have Pit Goliaths. But then, Wizard101 said on a certain BOSS's loot table, so it can't be mob monsters. Also it has to be a boss that's not farmed that much if it has not been found by now. What do you think?

UPDATE: Wizard101 has now said that it is NOT dropped in game due to a bug.

What's Wrong With Bartleby?

I was sitting at a computer when I got a few strange messages from my friends who are like those birds who love singing in your ear. Thank you, my little birdies.

"Have you noticed the world gate in Bartleby?"

Uh no, I did not. But when I checked, I noticed the door frame has thickened. I thought, hmm maybe this is a new design thing that came with the last update.

"Have you noticed the trees in Bartleby? They look stripped."

Once again, I said no. But as I looked around, I noticed that they were right. When comparing them to videos on Youtube by fellow wizards who ran through Bartleby or stood around admiring it, you could see the difference. They used to look really thick and was covered with rough bark. The kind you see on trees you buy as housing furniture like the ones below.

Who let the dogs out? WOOF, WOOF!

"Did you notice that the world door is groaning? Like a cold wind?"

Once again, nope I did not. I am deaf, so this was a surprise to me. I did not even know that cold wind sounds like groaning. Go figure. But suddenly there are theories being thrown around. Is this a hidden teaser? A glitch? Is this an ominous sign that something bad is coming? A cold wind? Does that mean that it's from a cold world like maybe Polaris that we still have not visited yet? Does it mean that something bad is happening in a cold world like Polaris or elsewhere? Or does it mean that winter is coming? Imagine a winter that never ends? Now that's scary.

It is also odd that there are trees that are stripped as well. Why would they be stripped? When trees are stripped, it usually mean that they are dying or are dead. Does this bode bad news coming for us wizards? For Bartleby? Is Bartleby dying? After all we don't know what Old Cob is up to. He could be wrecking havoc on the spiral that's leaving behind effects that's barely noticed, but has deep roots. Like when you throw a pebble in a lake, even though the pebble is far away from you, you still feel the ripples.

If this is true, if this is a teaser, I love it! I love the idea of seeing changes in between story line updates that will leave us wondering, what's going on? Something's not right! It's kinda weird that we have updates out of the blue. Oh yea there's a new update. We didn't see this coming. What a surprise!

But if we had little effects changing, nothing major, to our world in between the updates instead... It does make it more exciting and gives us time to theorize which is fun. Not to mention, it's more realistic that way. The spiral is always changing every day, not just every major update.

For example, imagine what if suddenly the Commons sky turned black in between the updates before we send Morganthe into the spiral (To her death? That's still a mystery)... literally. That would have been epic. We would wonder what happened. What the heck is Morganthe doing elsewhere in the spiral that we can see it from Wizard City?! I think that this is something that games in general do not do, but should do. Let's hope that Wizard101 is actually doing this on purpose. If it was just a glitch or simply a new design update, now that would be a huge let down. Right?

What About Fish Trading For Cool Stuff?

Imagine you have so many whoppers, the only way to use them is to display them. But then, what if you can get something better than that? What if you could get trophies? Call it Fish Challenges or something fancy.

What if Lucky Hookline has a new special friend who is a Fish Trader?
He will sell cool recipes for fishing gear or even trophies. Actually make it a girl this time. Female fisher persons are cool too ya know? Call her Kelsey Fireheart, eh? ;)

There would be categories such as Rare, Epic, Whopper, Small Fry, World Themed, School Themed and more. And there would be three or four kinds of trophies - Gold, Silver, Bronze, and maybe Brass.

But to get a better trophy, you will have to trade in the previous one .. if you want. But It's not required.

For instance, you will need 10 Small Fry to craft a Brass Small Fry trophy. But to get a Bronze trophy, you will need two Brass Small Fry trophies, so on, so on. The reason I thought of this is that we can't keep so many fish in our backpack without it being full. It wouldn't help with the space issue at all. But if we did it this way, the fish would be "stored" in a trophy which you can display at your house which would free up fish space in our backpack.

Then we can introduce new ages for Fishing if we wish. Each age would have the number of age on the trophy. For example, the first age trophies would have the number one on it. And maybe there could be recipes to craft a special trophy case for your trophies. For instance, five gold trophies could be crafted into a neat trophy case with the gold trophy displayed in it. There would be different trophy cases for each type of trophy. The gold one would be the fanciest while the brass would be the least fanciest. Each age would have its own unique trophy cases maybe even with a plaque that says "First Age Trophies." This would be a great idea for PvP tournament trophies too by the way.

But we could craft a lot more than trophies or trophy cases. What about fishing gear with energy, fishing luck and more? Fishing holes? If we can craft houses, why not new fishing holes like the Private Fishing Retreat? Heck, why not special fishing pets? If we turn in enough trophies, we can get a special fishing pet with new fishing talents.

Stuff I Need To Craft Pet Jewels, Where Art Thou?

The biggest question I hear is "Where do you get the metal reagents or the pet snacks that I need to craft Pet Jewels?" So far, we know that you can get pet snacks, steel and brass by the following methods.

1. Packs

The Mega Reagent Pack gives you all metal reagents.

2. Vendors

Dusty Shadowcloud of the West Ende Girls in Pet Pavilion of Wizard City sells
Pudding, Popsicle, Truffle, Radioactive Pizza, Star Fruit, Bubblegum snacks for 250 gold each.

Sa'eed sells Spicy Bubblegum snacks for 500 gold.

Begonia Woodworth of the Wysteria Pet Shop in Pigswick Academy, Wysteria sells
PBJ Sandwich, BBQ Drumstick, Nutty Truffle, Bag of Jelly Beans, Flaming Pineapple, Large Pretzel, Diamond Carrot snacks for 750 gold each.

Gordon Sumner of the Reagent's Square, Marleybone sells Heavenly Bubblegum snack along with PBJ Sandwich and Diamond Carrot snacks for 750 gold each.

3. Feeding Your Pet

Alexander Lionheart had this neat idea of buying super cheap clothes and simply feed it to your pet for a chance at those elusive reagents!

I would like to know where else you can find metal reagents like Brass, Silver, etc. Are they dropped somewhere? Let us know in the comments.
